How to Care for Hair Extensions: The Ultimate Guide

With the right care, hair extensions made of human hair are long-lasting and naturally beautiful. To ensure that the high-quality human hair retains its smoothness, bounce, and velvety shine, you must carefully care for and wash your human hair extensions. Here you will find everything important and the best tips for perfect care.

1. Caring for extensions – Washing extensions correctly

To properly care for your extensions, you must wash them regularly. For clip-in extensions, this is sufficient approximately every 10-15 uses. For permanent extensions, more frequent cleaning is necessary. Before washing, gently detangle the hair with your fingers and brush it thoroughly from the ends to the roots.

It is best to wash your extensions upright in the shower. Carefully shampoo only the scalp and let the foam run over the lengths. A subsequent treatment in the lengths and ends (2-5 min.) provides extra smoothness. Make sure that care treatments do not get onto the attachment points!

2. No-gos in extension care

3. The best care for extensions

Choose shampoos without silicones, alcohol, or oils. These ingredients can massively impair the durability of the attachment points (tapes or bondings). Our specially formulated hair2heart care products provide your natural hair and the extensions with intensive moisture.

4. Hair extension care routine

Brush your hair thoroughly twice a day with a special extension brush. Check the attachment points every 4 weeks. If strands become loose, have them moved up promptly by a hairdresser or a friend.

Styling with extensions

5. Styling with hair extensions

You can blow-dry, straighten, or curl your extensions. Always use a medium heat setting to avoid drying out the human hair. The gentlest method is air-drying. When using styling products, ensure they do not contain alcohol or oils that could attack the connections.

6. Can you dye extensions?

Synthetic hair and Standard human hair should not be dyed. For Premium human hair, color adjustment is possible because the cuticle layer is intact. However, we recommend choosing the right shade directly from our wide range of colors to protect the structure.

7. Sports with hair extensions

Sports are not an obstacle. However, always tie your hair in a braid or bun (e.g., a high bun for tapes) to avoid friction and matting caused by sweat. This keeps the attachment points safely protected.

8. Saltwater and chlorine

Chlorine and salt strip moisture from the hair. When swimming, it is best to pin your hair up. Should it get wet anyway: rinse it immediately with fresh water and then use a nourishing hair mask to neutralize salt residues.

9. Sleeping with extensions

Brush your hair thoroughly before going to bed and tie it into a loose braid or bun. This prevents mechanical friction on the pillow. Alternatively, a silk turban protects your hair particularly gently.

Great tapes

I am very satisfied, ordered yesterday, arrived today. I'm just testing them, my hair is great. My 11-year-old daughter put 10 tabs in for me; it was clearly difficult for her, but I am very satisfied.

Love these extensions

I've been a customer for years and this is my second time buying the black, straight ones. I'm very satisfied! I used to always buy the straight ones in burgundy, and those were great too!
