1. Removing microring hair extensions
Just as easy as microring extensions are applied, they are also easy to remove. The metal rings with protective silicone lining simply need to be opened again using the appropriate pliers.
Step-by-step:
- Gently hold the hair strand above the ring.
- Place the microring pliers on the narrow sides of the flattened ring.
- By gently squeezing, the ring returns to its round shape.
- Carefully slide the extension strand with the microring down out of the hair.
Note: If a strand gets stuck, gently open the microring a bit further and move it carefully back and forth. Never pull with force!
2. Can it be even easier?
Removal is especially comfortable using a special microring opening pliers (included in our microring 4-set). The tips of this tool grip directly into the opening of the ring and open it in a controlled way. This prevents accidental re-crimping and protects the material for future reuse.
3. Reusing microring hair extensions
After removal, high-quality human hair strands can easily be reused. While I-tip extensions are often ready for immediate reapplication, loop extensions may need to be rebonded if the ring was damaged during removal.
How to rebond microring extensions yourself:
- Heat keratin (sticks or granules) in a hot pot or with a keratin gun.
- Dip the top end of the hair strand into the melted keratin.
- Form a thin, elongated bond of about 5 mm length.
- Trim any excess material cleanly with scissors.
Pro tip: Make the new bond as thin as possible! Test beforehand on a sample strand whether the tip fits easily through the microring. If you’re looking for an even smaller connection, our nanoring extensions are an excellent and even more discreet alternative.
Conclusion
Removing and reusing microring extensions is easy with the right tools. Thanks to the heat-free mechanical system, you not only save time but also protect the long-term health of your hair. With a little practice in rebonding, your dream hair will remain a sustainable companion for many months!
