1. Can you apply bonding extensions yourself?
With some experience and manual skill, you can apply your Bonding Extensions yourself. Since it is difficult to work on the back of your own head, you should ask a friend for help. You will need the following accessories: human hair extensions, sectioning clips, protection templates, a tail comb, bonding remover, and a heat connector tool.
Step 1: Sectioning the hair
Section a part of your hair horizontally and secure the top hair with a sectioning clip. Make sure everything is well-fastened. Now, using a tail comb, separate a strand approximately the same thickness as a bonding strand.
Step 2: Applying the template
Place a protection template onto the separated strand. The template has an integrated slit to easily thread the strand through and protect the scalp from heat.
Step 3 & 4: Securing the template & preparing the strand
Secure the template with mini hair clips (slit facing upwards). Now, take an extension strand with the U-opening facing upwards and hold it ready.
Step 5: Positioning the strand
Position the bonding close to the scalp so that your natural hair strand lies within the U of the bonding. Leave about 1 cm of space from the scalp to avoid pain or tension.
Step 6: Securing the human hair strand
Press the heat connector tool onto the keratin U for 3-5 seconds. The heat liquidizes the keratin and connects the extension permanently to your hair.
Step 7: Rolling the heated keratin
Roll the connection point quickly between your thumb and index finger to evenly seal the keratin around the strand and keep the bond slim.
Step 8: The finished strand
This is what a well-applied bonding strand looks like: firmly enclosed, evenly rolled, and with sufficient distance from the scalp.
Repeat the process for every strand. We recommend applying the rows in a staggered pattern to achieve a particularly natural result and to optimally cover the connection points.
2. How much does it cost to apply bondings yourself?
At a salon, a professional bonding extension often costs over 500 Euros. If you handle the application yourself, you only pay for the material costs. These depend on the quality (Standard/Premium), the length (up to 70 cm), and the quantity (usually 100-250 strands).
Important: Do not attempt to make your own bonding remover. DIY remedies are inefficient and can permanently damage both your own hair and the extensions.
3. What should I keep in mind when buying bonding hair strands?
For a professional result, hair quality is crucial. Premium extensions made from Indian Remy human hair offer natural shine and long durability. With good care, they can even be reused multiple times.
4. How many bondings do I need for a hair extension?
The quantity depends on your desired goal:
- Full Hair Extension: For fine/normal hair approx. 4–6 packs (of 25 strands). For thick hair approx. 7+ packs.
- Hair Thickening (Volume): 2–4 packs are usually sufficient.
Tip: Stylish color accents can also be easily added to the hair with just 1–2 packs.
5. How long does the application take?
Plan for about 2 to 3 hours for a complete application. With a bit of practice and a helping hand, the process will become faster over time.
6. Which heat connector tool do I need?
A high-quality heat connector tool with Teflon coating is the most important tool. Look for continuous temperature control and light weight to work precisely and without fatigue.
